Betty Jane Davis

Memorial services for Betty Jane Davis, 82, Lawrence, are pending and will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Alterra Sterling House.

She was born July 2, 1920, in Litchfield, Minn., the daughter of Roy and Laura S. (Sundahl) Crosby. In 1943 she received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Minnesota, where she was a member of the Masquers and Zeta Phi Eta.

Mrs. Davis taught in several Minnesota schools and was secretary in the Hennepin County Engineer’s Office in Minneapolis, Minn.

She was an actress with Lawrence Community Theatre and Senior Theater Group of the Retirees Club at Kansas University. She was also a poll worker and fund-raiser for many organizations.

She married Jed H. Davis on Aug. 4, 1945, in Litchfield. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Julie K. Davis-Gottschall, Lawrence; a son, John C. Davis, Salina; and three grandchildren.

A son, Brian Davis, died in 1995.

The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, or Lawrence Community Theatre Endowment, sent in care of the mortuary.
