? He was born March 15, 1910, in Scott, Okla., the son of John Hester and Anna Marie (Ziesenis) Sommer.

Mr. Sommer served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant. He was post office clerk in Eudora for 37 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served on the church council and cemetery committee for several years. He also was a member of Eudora Area Historical Society and National Rural Letter Carrier Assn. He was a volunteer fireman for Eudora.

He married Christine R. Selzer on July 23, 1935, in Kansas City, Kan. She died Oct. 26, 2002.

Survivors include a sister, Edna Zillner, Lawrence.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to the church cemetery maintenance fund, sent in care of the mortuary, 1003 John L. Williams Drive, Eudora 66025.
