Tulsa hires Bills assistant

? Tulsa University hired Buffalo Bills assistant Steve Kragthorpe as its head coach Wednesday.

Kragthorpe will replace Keith Burns, who resigned under pressure Dec. 2 after winning just two games in the last two seasons, university spokesman Don Tomkalski said.

Kragthorpe, 37, coached Buffalo’s quarterbacks for two seasons.

Burns went 7-28 in three seasons at Tulsa, which hasn’t had a winning season since 1991.

Kansas University claimed its only win of the season against a Division I opponent Sept. 28 at Tulsa. The Jayhawks’ 43-33 triumph extended the Hurricane’s losing streak to 15 games.

KU defensive coordinator Bill Young, who was an assistant coach at Tulsa under coach John Cooper from 1980 to 1984, also had interviewed for the job.
