Former Kansas University football and basketball player Mario Kinsey will make his Sam Houston State debut tonight when the Bearkats tangle with Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

Kinsey, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Waco, Texas, enrolled at the Huntsville, Texas, school for the 2002 spring semester after being dismissed from KU for violating institutional policies.

Kinsey sat out the fall semester under NCAA transfer rules. He has been working out with the basketball team since practice began in mid-October and is expected to see duty tonight in a reserve role.

Kinsey averaged 1.9 points with 15 assists in 16 games for the Jayhawks during the 2000-2001 season. Kinsey also was KU’s starting quarterback during most of the 2001 season.
