Baldwin bummed by Hayden
Baldwin ? Topeka Hayden’s Jarod Tetuan scored 23 points against Baldwin’s boys basketball team in Hayden’s 63-45 victory Tuesday at Baldwin High.
“They’ve got real good shooters, they’ve got size and Tetuan is a gamer,” Baldwin coach Jeff Haas said.
Used to playing shorthanded because of early-season injuries, Haas was without senior guard Joe Gipp against the Wildcats, though not because of an injury.
“Joe Gipp has some off-the-court academic issues to rectify before he’s welcome on the court again,” Haas said.
Hayden led 17-6 after the first quarter and cruised behind Tetuan and Scott Wempe, who scored 11 points.
Andy Hannon led Baldwin (1-4) with 16 points, and Micah Mason and Brian Lauridsen each added eight.
With players out because of injury and other issues, Haas had a chance to give some younger players time on the court, which he thinks will help later in the season.
“We’re asking some younger guys to step up and do some things they’d otherwise not do,” Haas said, “I think it’s going to make us stronger in the long run.”
The Bulldogs will travel to Garnett and play Anderson County on Friday.
