NBA Roundup: Grizzlies win again

Person's late flurry helps suddenly hot Memphis

? Wesley Person, the NBA’s leading three-point shooter, didn’t panic when he missed his first eight shots.

Instead, the nine-year veteran relied upon his experience to snap out of the slump in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of his 13 points to help the Memphis Grizzlies to a 104-91 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night.

“In the past, I would have let that get next to me,” Person said. “But in the fourth quarter, after being in the league for nine years, I knew I was going to start making some shots.

“You need one to go in. After I got two in a row, then it started getting a little easier. The main thing is to get one to go in the hole, so you know you can still make one.”

Person shot 4-of-6 in the fourth, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, as the Grizzlies won for the fifth time in six games.

The Warriors dropped their third straight, all on the road in the last four days.

“They were offensively tougher than we played,” Warriors forward Antawn Jamison said. “They played smarter. It is surprising since we have been doing such a good job lately. We just weren’t together. That sums up the whole road trip.”

The teams exchanged leads through the middle stages of the fourth quarter, Golden State holding an 89-88 edge with just under seven minutes to play after Chris Mills converted a three-point play.

Memphis outscored the Warriors 16-2 the rest of the way, with Golden State’s only points coming on a pair of free throws by Gilbert Arenas.

Six Grizzlies scored in double figures. Gordan Giricek and Pau Gasol had 18 each, and Lorenzen Wright had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kansas University product Drew Gooden finished with 13 – all in the first half, while Stromile Swift had 12.

Jamison led the Warriors with 19 points, and Arenas scored 17.

Duke teammates but nba rivals, Memphis' Shane Battier, right, blocks the shot of Golden State's Mike Dunleavy during Monday's game in Memphis, Tenn.

“To be able to hold them, when they shoot 39 percent, to 14 offensive boards was major,” Memphis coach Hubie Brown said. “When you hold them to 39 percent, there are a ton of rebounds that they could go get.”
