Moss pleads guilty on two counts
Minneapolis – Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss pleaded guilty Thursday to two minor charges related to pushing a traffic officer with his car in downtown Minneapolis.
Three other counts, including a marijuana charge, were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Moss, who did not appear in court, was ordered to pay $1,200 in fines and sentenced to 30 days in jail by Hennepin County District Judge Mark Wernick. Moss was also ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
‘Skins release Jackson
Ashburn, Va. – The Washington Redskins released Willie Jackson on Thursday, the second time this season the receiver has been cut. Jackson signed with the Redskins in October after he was waived by Atlanta. He caught just seven passes for 58 yards during six games with Washington.
Jets know Urlacher is quite dangerous
Hempstead, N.Y. – The New York Jets won’t be concentrating on the numbers 3 and 10, which is the Chicago Bears’ disappointing record this season. On Sunday, they will be focus on the number 54, which is worn by linebacker Brian Urlacher.
While the Bears are in the midst of a distressing, injury-riddled season, they still have one of the game’s premier defensive players. That fact isn’t lost on the Jets, who at 7-6 are in the midst of the AFC playoff race.
“He has the potential to be one of the best linebackers ever to play the game,” Curtis Martin said.
Chicago has lost several important defenders this season, including massive tackle Ted Washington and developing outside linebacker Warrick Holdman. That’s placed an even bigger burden on Urlacher.
“It hasn’t been very fun,” Urlacher said. “We’re just not playing very good.”
Carolina’s Peete wants to keep playing
Charlotte, N.C. – Rodney Peete entered this season thinking it might be his last. Now he’s changed his mind.
The 14-year veteran quarterback admits he feels rejuvenated after 11 starts this season, more than he’s had since 1995, and some success in a 5-8 season for the Carolina Panthers.
But the 36-year-old Peete isn’t sure if he’ll be back with the Panthers. Signed to a one-year contract, Peete will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
“I’d like to be around next year, I really would,” Peete said. “I’d like to be part of this team in the next few years and seeing this whole situation get turned around.”
Bengals’ Thompson on IR
Cincinnati – The Cincinnati Bengals put safety Lamont Thompson on injured reserve Thursday and promoted quarterback Joe Germaine from the practice squad.
