Lewis bound over for murder trial

A Douglas County district judge ruled Friday there is enough evidence for Damien C. Lewis to stand trial for the slayings last summer of an elderly couple at their home in east Lawrence.

District Judge Mike Malone made the ruling about 10:30 a.m. Friday at the conclusion of Lewisâ preliminary hearing.

Malone set the arraignment for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 23, when Lewis will make his formal plea.

Lewis, 22, has been charged with capital murder and other offenses in connection with the July 10 deaths of George âÂÂPeteâ Wallace and Wyona Chandlee, both 71. Wallace and Chandlee were found shot the next day in their home at 1530 Learnard Ave.

Lewis is also charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and felony possession of a firearm.

The preliminary hearing began Thursday morning and concluded Friday morning.
