LINCOLN, NEB. ? Nebraska picked Joe Selig as its interim athletic director on Thursday.

Selig replaces Bill Byrne, who accepted the same job at Texas A&M last week. Byrne will serve as a consultant to the Nebraska athletic department until Jan. 2.

Selig began his career at Nebraska as a student worker in the ticket office and has been employed by the athletic department for 26 years, the last four as senior associate athletic director for external operations.
