Republicans name Senate vice president
Republicans selected a Johnson County lawmaker to serve as the next Senate vice president.
John Vratil, R-Leawood, is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. An attorney, he has served in the Senate since 1998. He is also vice chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
Vratil would replace Sen. Sandy Praeger, R-Lawrence, who was elected insurance commissioner. Vratil’s selection must be ratified by the full Senate when the 2003 Legislature convenes in January.
