Seabury drops pair at Cair Paravel

? Two games in two days proved to be no problem for Lawrence HighâÂÂs girls basketball team.

Junior Josie Polk poured in 30 points – giving her 51 during the past two days – as the Lions emptied the bench early and still ran away from Kansas City Harmon, 94-37, on Tuesday at Harmon High.

âÂÂJosie hit a couple of shots early. She was on fire, and they didnâÂÂt adjust,â LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. âÂÂWe made sure we reversed the ball, and when she got an open look, she knocked it down.âÂÂ

All 10 Lions who made the trip played, and all 10 scored.

Cherrale Ricks contributed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Rachael Klingler had 11 points and seven steals. Audrey Pope added 10 points for LHS (2-1).

âÂÂWe could have scored 100 if we wanted to,â Mallory said. âÂÂIt was kind of nice. They played us well. I think we just wore them out. We just had a much stronger bench. We just ran âÂÂem until they couldnâÂÂt get back on defense any more. It was nice for us because we played back-to-back games, and it was nice to give the girls a little rest and have the opportunity to get everybody on the floor.âÂÂ

The Lions will be idle until Dec. 20, when they play host to Free State.

Topeka – Topeka Cair Paravel pulled away after halftime to hand Seabury AcademyâÂÂs boys basketball team an 86-47 setback on Tuesday.

Seabury (0-2) fell behind 10-0 early, which coach Marcus Heckman attributed to a deer-in-the-headlights reaction from his team in its first year as part of the Kansas State High School Activities Assn.

Heckman said he played five freshmen down the stretch, which helped Cair Paravel make the score more lopsided.

Aaron Landis led the Seahawks with 15 points. Adam Davis added 11, and Grayson Dillon scored 10.

Seabury will play Kickapoo Nation at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the East Lawrence Recreation Center.
