Polk paces Lions in win over Wildcats – Lawrence girls 65, KC Washington 44

? Junior Josie Polk scored 21 points for the second straight game, leading Lawrence HighâÂÂs girls basketball squad to a 65-44 rout of KC-Washington on Monday.

The Lions (1-1) jumped out to a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never relented, scoring in bunches against a Washington squad deemed athletic by LHS coach Kristin Mallory. Lawrence sank three three-pointers in the opening period.

âÂÂWeâÂÂre playing in the city – itâÂÂs a different style of ball there,â Mallory said. âÂÂBut theyâÂÂve really improved from last year. Their style of play fit in to what they had – they push the ball real well.âÂÂ

Juniors Rachael Klingler and Cherrale Ricks added 10 points and senior Leigh DeBiasse nine for the Lions. Mallory said DeBiasse and Polk were learning to jell, and that combination proved lethal on Monday.

âÂÂ(Polk) had another good game all-around,â Mallory said.

âÂÂThe girls did a nice job of finding her. She was able to catch and shoot. Her and Leigh Debiasse have worked well together; they did a nice job.âÂÂ

The Lions play today at KC Harmon.
