Kansas University has been named as one of the top universities in the U.S. for Hispanics to succeed.

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine has named KU among its 2002 PublisherâÂÂs Picks List for universities that are good environments for Hispanic students.

âÂÂThe ranking by Hispanic Outlook editors is gratifying,â said Janet Murguia, KU executive vice chancellor for university relations.

âÂÂIt reflects the concerted commitment in the entire KU community to support the success of all minority students, including Hispanics,â Murguia said in a prepared statement.

According to fall 2002 enrollment totals, the number of Hispanic students on the KU campus increased by 18.3 percent. Those 742 Hispanic students include 18 freshmen who are National Hispanic scholars. Total enrollment for KU for the fall was 28,849.

The colleges and universities on the publisherâÂÂs list were selected based on formal survey data from the national Center for Education Statistics and from informal input from various sources, according to the magazine.
