FCE and 4-H News

The November meeting of the McLouth Crackerjack 4-H Club started with a potluck dinner for new members. The meeting was called to order by Audrey Deeken, president. Members answered roll call by telling where they would spend Thanksgiving.

A ceremony was conducted for nine new members and they were given boxes of crackerjacks.

Susie Deeken, community leader, passed out checks for the ribbons received at state fair. Enrollment cards were handed out.

The club did a window display at Harker Insurance and Real Estate in McLouth for 4-H week and received a third-place finish.

Members voted to give a $25 gift certificate to the Town Clipper in McLouth as one of the prizes for the raffle drawing at the 4-H carnival. The club also voted that to be a gold member people would have to attend eight meetings a year instead of six.

The club will have a bowling party from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Countryside Lanes in Oskaloosa. Members should bring snacks. Members decided that today and Dec. 14 they would ring bells at Hometown Foods in McLouth to collect money for the Salvation Army. The money will stay in Jefferson County.

The next meeting will be Wednesday.

India FCE will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the home of Mattie Fornelli. Members are reminded to bring winter clothes and nonperishable food for donation. The club will have a gift exchange.

Kanwaka FCE will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home of Don and Margaret Fuston. The club will have a Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. Members also be collecting items for the First Step House.

The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met Nov. 9, and Michelle Colgan called the meeting to order. Members sang “John Jacob Jingle Himer Smith.” Members answered roll call by naming what they were thankful for.

Members were recognized for their achievements during the 4-H year. After the meeting, members enjoyed a dinner, hayride and s’mores by a campfire.

The club will meet today at Clinton Presbyterian Church. Members will go Christmas caroling.

The Jayhawk 4-H Club had an achievement dinner and meeting Nov. 11 at Woodlawn School. Bridget Falley, president, called the meeting to order.

Members with completed record books were recognized. The club decided to adopt a family and a grandparent for the holidays. They also will volunteer to ring bells for the Salvation Army.

There was a historian’s display after the meeting. Members also wrote holiday greeting cards for retirement home residents.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn School.

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club installed new officers during its November meeting. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite 4-H event. They decided to adopt a family for the holidays.

The club recognized project leaders. Paula Aiken, club leader, was honored for her 23 years of service.

The next meeting will be Monday. It will be a Christmas party, and members are to bring a gift for an exchange.
