Students from area to compete in High Q

Students from area high schools will answer questions on subjects such as art, literature, history, math and science Saturday at the High Q academic competition at Washburn University.

Teams earning the top 16 scores will advance to finals and return to Topeka for taping sessions. The competition will air from late January to early May on Sunflower Broadband Channel 13 and re-air on Channel 11.

The teams include:

Jefferson West High: freshman Kasey Moomau and juniors Robert Teller, Zac Wininger, Josh Cook and John Bergin, with coaches Jeff Folger and Scott Campbell.

Oskaloosa High: seniors Nick Baker, Garrett Tufte and Kyle Kelsay and sophomores Coby Tenpenny and Emma Willis, with coach Kathy Saving.

Perry-Lecompton High: seniors Steve Ferrell, Noah Rees and Pat Ketter, and juniors Ben Bowman and Aimee Varner, with coach Julie Gillette.

Valley Falls High: seniors Lindsay Starkey, Katie Henderson and Drew Bartlett and junior Danny Hayworth, with coach Ardith Spencer.

McLouth High: juniors Lisa Smelser and Leah Overbaugh, and sophomores Michael Johnson, Joel Dickerson and Dylan Roberts, with coach Sara Booth.
