Snowstorm affects events
A snowstorm that swept across the eastern part of the United States on Thursday forced the postponement and cancellations of several sporting events.
More than 7 inches of snow had come down in New Jersey by midday. Among the events affected:
- Thoroughbred racing and simulcasting at Aqueduct and Meadowlands Racetrack was canceled.
- The college basketball game between Lafayette and Centenary, N.J., was postponed. The game was rescheduled for Jan. 7 at Lafayette.
- The Towson-Morgan State men’s basketball game was postponed, and no makeup date has been scheduled. The Coppin State-Morgan State women’s game was also postponed and will be played Dec. 9.
Giants Stadium officials were looking for volunteers to help shovel snow Friday, one day before the Army-Navy game was to be played there. Volunteers will be deployed to clear seats and aisles; the stadium crew will tend to the field.
The pay is $16.75 an hour, or about triple the state’s minimum wage.
