s contract
Kansas University football coach Mark ManginoâÂÂs contract has been extended a year. Mangino is now under contract through the 2007 season. His original five-year pact ended in 2006.
âÂÂIt is important we demonstrate our commitment to coach Mangino and our football program for the future,â KU athletic director Al Bohl said Thursday. âÂÂMark has made a very positive impact in developing the blueprint for our future success on the football field.âÂÂ
Mangino, who compiled a 2-10 record during his first season as the Jayhawksâ head coach, was named KU football coach on Dec. 4, 2001.
âÂÂIt takes time to develop a winning football program,â KU chancellor Robert Hemenway said, âÂÂand we are going to ensure that coach Mangino has the time and support to accomplish that purpose.âÂÂ
Mangino earns an annual salary of $128,438 — the same as basketball coaches Roy Williams and Marian Washington — but his total package is about $700,000.
Mangino is guaranteed a minimum of $475,000 from his radio-TV package and endorsements. He also has the use of two automobiles, membership in a country club and âÂÂreasonableâ travel and entertainment expenses. The athletic department also pays the premiums on ManginoâÂÂs $2 million term life insurance policy.
