Health care agency slates casino night fund-raiser

The folks who run Health Care Access figure they need $20,000 to end the year in the black.

To come up with the money, theyâÂÂre starting a one-night casino Saturday at the Springhill Suites by Marriott. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

âÂÂEverybody who buys a ticket will get $5,000 in chips to play with. ThereâÂÂll be blackjack, craps and a roulette wheel,â said Nikki Rhea, executive director at Health Care Access, a Lawrence medical clinic that cares for the uninsured.

At the end of the evening, whoeverâÂÂs won the most money gets a catered dinner for eight from La Tasca restaurant.

Called âÂÂA Holiday in Monte Carlo,â the fund-raiser also will feature a gourmet buffet dinner, starting at 7:30 p.m., live music, a silent auction that includes a trip to Hawaii, and a raffle for a $1,800 diamond-and-emerald bracelet.

Available at the door, tickets to âÂÂA Holiday in Monte Carloâ are $50.

âÂÂAll the money thatâÂÂs raised will go to support clinic operations,â Rhea said.

The clinic at 1920 Moodie Road logs about 3,300 patient visits a year.

Most of the clinicâÂÂs services are donated by area doctors and Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
