Verna Kay Brown
Services for Verna Kay Brown, 44, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lenexa Christian Center. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Brown died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 10, 1958, in Earle, Ark., the daughter of Jesse Lee and Dorothy Mae (Harris) Bolden. She attended Tonganoxie public schools and graduated in 1976. She attended Topeka Technical College for a year and received her certification for medical assistant in 1993.
Mrs. Brown was a medical assistance instructor at Lawrence Career College and helped with job placement. She was a member of Lenexa Christian Center, where she sang in the choir and was an assistant home support group leader, among other responsibilities. She was also an ordained deaconess at Pentecostal Bible Church.
She married Theron Wayne Brown on Sept. 3, 1977, in Lawrence. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Tremayne Brown, Twynnin Brown and Tyron Brown, all of Lawrence; two daughters, Tevaune Brown and Amy Kennedy, both of Lawrence; her father, Maywood, Ill.; four brothers, Danny Bolden, Lorenzo Bolden, Michael Bolden and Kenneth Bolden, all of Lawrence; two sisters, Glenda Bolden, Omaha, Neb., and Zernell Bolden, Lawrence; three half-sisters, Keisha Bolden, Antoinette Bolden and Gloria Bolden, all of Maywood, Ill.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Verna Kay Brown Scholarship Fund for the children, sent in care of the mortuary.
