Big 12 Men: Cornhuskers club Roadrunners

? Jake Muhleisen scored 14 points and John Turek added 12 Sunday to lead Nebraska past cold-shooting Texas-San Antonio 69-53.

The Roadrunners (1-3) hung with Nebraska for the first eight minutes before the Cornhuskers switched to a man-to-man defense. That, combined with poor shooting, began to take a toll on Texas-San Antonio.

After tying the game at 11 with 11:42 remaining in the first half, the Roadrunners made just three more field goals before halftime, when they trailed 32-20.

“Holding them to 20 points in the first half and the defensive intensity to start the second half is what we have to do,” Nebraska coach Barry Collier said.

Texas-San Antonio’s shooting woes continued in the second half. The Roadrunners were 3-of-17 from the field as Nebraska (2-2) opened a 51-31 lead at the midway point of the second half.

Texas-San Antonio ended the game shooting 32 percent from the field.

Nebraska also dominated the backboards, outrebounding the Roadrunners 41-31.

Also scoring in double figures for Nebraska were Jason Dourisseau with 11 and Andrew Drevo with 10. Ike Akotaobi led Texas-San Antonio with 17 points and LeRoy Hurd had 10.
