Bailey services

He was born May 24, 1927, in Lawrence, the son of Arthur and Mary Bailey. A lifelong Lawrence resident, he attended Lawrence public schools and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School.

Mr. Bailey was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Paratroopers with the 82nd Airborne. He worked for 36 years as a pipefitter’s foreman with CFCA until he retired in 1989.

He was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14, VFW Alford-Clarke Post No. 852, and the Williams Fund at Kansas University’s athletic department, all in Lawrence.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Kapfer, Lawrence; two sons, John, San Antonio, and Chuck, Lawrence; a brother, Delbert, Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A great-granddaughter died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
