He was born May 11, 1938, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He attended grade school in St. Joseph, Mo. He and his family then moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he graduated from Central High School in 1955. He later studied architecture at the University of Minnesota. He completed his architecture degree at Kansas University.

Mr. Holt was a land developer and contractor. He designed and developed residential and commercial properties throughout Lawrence and the surrounding area.

He married Polly Noonan while attending the University of Minnesota. She died Sept. 25, 2001.

Survivors include a daughter, Chali Gregory, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; two sons, J.B., Raymore, Mo., and Evan, Monterey, Calif.; a sister, Sandra, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Guy, Kansas City, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
