Greg Moore recently joined Realty Executives Hedges Real Estate.

Moore has been in the real estate business for four years. Moore specializes in residential real estate for first-time homebuyers. Moore is a director for the Lawrence Board of Realtors.

Dee Bisel, owner of Minuteman Press at 501 Gateway Drive, attended the World Expo 2002 Aug. 7-10 in New Orleans. The convention brought together the 870 Minuteman Press franchise owners from around the world.

Bisel was one of six owners to sit on the Outside Sales/Management Panel and during the seminar presented her marketing program titled “Here’s The Deal.” The marketing program won first place in the “Best Idea” contest and her store was awarded a Laser printer.

Her Lawrence store also received the Top Appearance Award out of the 38 stores in the Midwest region. This award is presented only to those franchise owners whose care and consideration has maintained the appearance of their shops in accordance with standards set by Minuteman Press International. Inc.

Carl Kurt, Lawrence, has been appointed to the Small Business Compliance Advisory Panel by Gov. Bill Graves. The panel is part of the Kansas small business stationary source technical and environmental assistance program. The program helps small businesses understand and comply with federal air-quality requirements. The panel renders advisory opinions concerning the effectiveness of the assistance program. It also reviews information for small business stationary emission sources. Kurt will serve a two-year term.

Kurt is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Kansas University. He is president and founder of EnGraph, a geographical information systems consulting firm in Lawrence.

Kristie Bowen has joined Victory Sportswear as a sales representative. She was previously a dental assistant with Parkway Dental. The former Miss Kansas will join the sales department and will cover the state of Kansas and western Missouri. Kristie is a graduate of Kansas University. Victory Sportswear specializes in screen-printed and embroidered apparel as well as promotional items.

The Kansas Women Attorneys Assn. elected district representatives for 2002-2003 during its annual meeting July 20 in Lindsborg. Wendy Tatro, Lawrence, was elected to represent District 2.

US Bank recently named Douglas Dawson vice president of commercial lending. Dawson, who began his career with the bank in 1989, most recently has been working in the Kansas City market as part of the US Bank special assets division. Dawson is a Kansas University graduate. His office will be located at 900 Mass.

Ruth Porsch, Debbie Heinrich and Teresa Pippert, employees of US Bank, have won the company’s annual Pinnacle Award. The award is one of the bank’s highest retail employee achievement honors. They received their awards in Las Vegas.

Porsch, Lawrence, is a US Bank district manager at 900 Mass. She has worked in the financial services industry for 18 years.

Heinrich, Baldwin, is vice president and branch manager at 900 Mass. She has worked in the financial services industry for 24 years. She worked the past seven years for US Bank in the Kansas City area. She moved to the Lawrence location in 2000.

Pippert, Lawrence, is vice president and branch manager at 1600 E. 23rd St. She has been in the financial services industry for 26 years.

Honors and awards

Ottawa resident Monty Fritts, owner of MyHotSauces.com, recently has garnered four awards for his line of hot pepper sauces at the 2002 Texas Fiery Foods Shoot-Out in Austin, Tex. His Montgomery’s Fire Lizard won first place in the extra hot category. Monte’s Smoke & Fire won third place in the extra hot category and tied for second place in the haba category. His Around the World sauce won first place in the world beat category.

Phillip Rademacher, president of Rademacher Financial Inc., will be offering a course “Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement.”

The course will cover financial business, retirement income, investments, risk management and estate planning.

The course consists of four sessions and will be presented on four consecutive Tuesdays or Thursdays, beginning Sept. 3 and Sept. 5. Sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Kansas Room of the Washburn University Memorial Union in Topeka.

Mary Faith Marshall will speak on “Ethical Issues in Stem Cell Research and Cloning” at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 in room 233 of the General Education Building at Johnson County Community College.

Marshall is a professor of medicine and bioethics at the Kansas University School of Medicine. She is a program associate of the Midwest Bioethics Center.

The Center for Business and Technology at Johnson County Community College will present Phil Jackson, head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, in a live broadcast via satellite. Jackson will present “Surrendering the “Me” for the “We” Coaching for Great Teamwork” from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 in room 211 of the Carlsen Center.

His address is designed for supervisors, managers and team leaders. He will discuss his philosophies on how to be an exceptional coach by using motivation and understanding of others.

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce will have a ground- breaking ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Oncology Center, 325 Maine.

Housing & Credit Counseling Inc. and Tucker Financial Services will present a “Financial Literacy 101” class from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Topeka Public Library, 1515 SW 10th St.

The class will cover wealth building, setting a foundation, goal setting, saving strategies, investment terminology, stocks and bonds.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services will present “Discover More Dollars” from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the United Way Building, 2518 Ridge Court, Lawrence.

The workshop will cover financial goal setting, developing a realistic budget, cutting costs, evaluating spending habits and starting a savings plan.

Organizers of the 2002 Corporate Cup have announced the event will be Sept. 28 at Free State High School. The one-day competition involves activities such as volleyball, swimming, track and field, and tug-a-war.

The event is still accepting entries from area companies. For companies of 150 employees or more, the registration fee is $750. For companies of less than 150 employees, the registration fee is $500.

In order to fill all of the events, companies need approximately 40 employees or spouses that are willing to participate. Small companies also are encouraged to form a team with another company. To register contact Howie Olsen at (800) 444-9803 by Friday.

All proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics Kansas.

The event thus far has attracted teams from Hallmark, E&E Display, Packerware/Berry Plastics, Allen Press and NCS Pearson.
