Bechard encouraged by scrimmage

It was hard to tell much about this season’s Kansas University volleyball team Saturday night.

In the Jayhawks’ first public scrimmage at the Horejsi Center, the blue squad beat the red team handily, 3-0.

But coach Ray Bechard said the lopsided match score was not indicative of what fans will see from the Jayhawks this season.

“I saw some good things that will be even better when everyone is on the same side of the ball,” he said.

Saturday, there was quite the battle between KU’s likely starters, which were evenly split on both teams although they switched back and forth.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Rome led the Jayhawks with 17 kills.

The Jayhawks will travel to Omaha, Neb., on Saturday to play Creighton in a 7 p.m. season opener.
