Jayhawk soccer team wins exhibition

? Sophomore forward Monica Brothers scored the lone goal of the match, and Kansas University’s women’s soccer team defeated Southwest Missouri State, 1-0, in exhibition play Friday night at Cooper Sports Complex.

Freshman midfielder Holly Ryder and sophomore midfielder Lauren Williams assisted on the Jayhawks’ goal.

“For an exhibition match this early in the season I was very pleased with everyone’s performance,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We were able to see some things that we will need to work on before the regular season starts.”

The Jayhawks return 15 letterwinners and seven starters from their 2001 team, the winningest in school history. They open their regular season with two home games next weekend. KU plays host to UNLV on Friday and Boston University on Sunday. Kickoff for the UNLV match is set for 4 p.m., and the Boston game at 1 p.m.
