Invitational goes international
South Africa's Goosen, Japan's Izawa atop leaderboard
Sammamish, Wash. ? The NEC Invitational moved across the country to a different climate and a different course, although some things never change.
The leaderboard was loaded with players from all over the world Thursday, with Retief Goosen of South Africa and Toshi Izawa of Japan at the top at 6-under 65.
Tiger Woods, who shot a 68, is trying to become the first player since Walter Hagen (1924-27 in the PGA Championship) to win the same tournament four years in a row, and he had no other complaints about a 68 that left him in decent shape going into the second round.
Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III were at 5-under 66, along with Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, who was 5 under after his first seven holes.
