Bombardier to eliminate 125 more jobs

? In a second round of layoffs this month, Bombardier Aerospace will cut 125 more jobs in Wichita.

Most of the cuts are in production, and 90 percent of the workers facing layoffs are represented by the Machinists union. The majority of employees losing their jobs will be told early next week.

“We’re continuing to respond to the soft market,” company spokesman Dave Franson said. “Production rates are at a point where they really don’t warrant the number of people that we have, so we had to make another adjustment.”

Bombardier laid off 150 Wichita workers in early August. The latest round of cuts brings total layoffs at Bombardier’s Wichita plant since September to roughly 875.

Franson said he did not know if the company would cut any more jobs at the Wichita site this year. The latest cuts at Bombardier include 18 janitorial positions, he said. The company has hired an outside company to provide the service.
