JEFFERSON CITY, MO. ? A 24-year-old woman from western Missouri has tested positive for the West Nile virus, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said Wednesday.

The case in Buchanan County is the state’s first of a human infection outside the St. Louis area. So far, 10 people there have tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus.

Earlier this week, a St. Louis woman reportedly died of West Nile virus. Tests have not yet confirmed that.

St. Joseph is the county seat of Buchanan County.
