‘Pluto Nash’ offers plenty to dislike

Curious, in a sick sort of way, about the year’s worst comedy? Hold your nose and slog through the backwash of “The Adventures of Pluto Nash,” starring Eddie Murphy and Rosario Dawson. This new/old lampoon which does for sci-fi what “Hudson Hawk” did for espionage comes with what must be a record number of buyer-beware warnings, including:

A release that was delayed by more than a year.

A title reminiscent of “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” and “Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.”

No screenings for critics in the hopes that the offending studio (Warner Bros.) might draw weekend business before the word gets out.

A star who refuses to do any pre-opening interviews on behalf of the film.

A script that’s a half-witted hybrid of “Casablanca” (Murphy is a nightclub owner with a criminal past) and “Total Recall” (the setting is a domed lunar town).

Alec Baldwin doing an uncredited cameo as a Mafia crime boss.

A supporting cast that includes half of Hollywood’s favorite lugs and thugs, starting with Burt Young and including Joe Pantoliano, Luis Guzman, Peter Boyle and James Rebhorn.

The Amazonian Pam Grier cast as say it ain’t so! Murphy’s fretful mama, Flura.

John Cleese in an unfunny bit lifted from “Total Recall” (remember the robotic Johnnycab?).

Warner Bros. flogging its parent company, with AOL product placements.

Murphy glumly playing straight man to his cloned double, who ends up upstaging himself.

And, finally

Zero-gravity Porta-Potty jokes.
