ODESSA, MO. Three-time Late Model champion Jeff Klem was victorious Saturday night at I-70 Speedway. Having earlier in the evening driven his Chevy Monte Carlo to a top qualifying time of 16.752, the Basehor, Kan., chauffer then led the first two laps of the 40-lap feature.
Klem regained the lead by lap 26, in part due to mechanical failure to both Clint Bowyer, current NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Midwest Region leader, and defending Midwest Region Champion, John O'Neal Jr. Klem would lead the rest of the way.
In NASCAR Shortrack Series action, Terry Smith ran from wire-to-wire in the 25-lap Modified feature. Withstanding four cautions and a bumper-to-bumper field, the Belton, Mo., native won his first feature since the opening night of 2000.
In a caution-free 15-lap feature in the Struck class, Brandon Jordan picked up his first career victory. Making the haul from Paola, Kan., Jordan started outside row two, took the lead coming out of turn two and held off all challengers right to the finish, leading every lap.
