To the editor:

I am spending my Saturday morning writing letters to protest the horrible idea of letting Wal-Mart build at the Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive location. Free State High School and the surrounding sports and recreation facilities are really something to be proud of I cannot image spoiling the area with a big, ugly discount store. Lawrence already has two good shopping districts. The Lawrence Wal-Mart probably takes in more money than any other retailer in town.

They have no regard for the local community’s best interest, in fact they have built their empire by smashing local businesses as do all the “big box” retail chains. I sincerely hope that our mayor and city commissioners will do the right thing and protect our schools and neighborhoods.
