Bernard D. Walden

? He was born Jan. 20, 1909, near Haddam, the son of Japeth D. and Mary (Line) Walden. He graduated from Haddam High School in 1927.

Mr. Walden served in the U.S. Navy from 1927 to 1929 and was stationed aboard the USS Utah at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He farmed near Haddam until 1947 and lived in Centralia before moving to the Richland community. There, he continued to farm and work for the U.S. Supply Depot at Forbes Air Base, Topeka. In 1966, he moved to Topeka, where he worked for the Topeka Park Department. He moved in 1975 to Osage City, where he managed Park Place Apartments. He attended Osage City United Methodist Church and was active in Osage City Senior Center.

He married Eleanor Williams on Dec. 30, 1929, in Belleville. She died Nov. 27, 1980.

Survivors include a son, Bob, Lawrence; two daughters, Frances Rake, Basehor, and Shirley Earhart, Osage City; two brothers, J.D., Shawnee, and Loren, Centralia; a sister, Mary Schlagel, Holton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
