IN 1977

A final architect’s report strongly recommended converting the 1956 wing of Lawrence Memorial Hospital into a home for local public health agencies, such as the city-county health department and the Bert Nash Mental Health Center. Walter Hicks, the architect, estimated the cost of the job at $428,000 and said the changeover could be accomplished with fewer problems than those at first anticipated.

IN 1902

The Lawrence Journal’s headlines read “SATURDAY EVENING CROWDS-Stores and Streets Thronged with the People of Lawrence” The Journal noted, “The merchants were kept busy until a late hour. It was cooler to do the trading on Saturday night than it had been during the day and people took advantage of it.”
