Wizards, D.C. United tie

? Kansas City’s Tony Meola stopped a retaken penalty kick in the 90th minute Saturday night to extend D.C. United’s scoreless streak to 531 minutes in a 0-0 draw with the Wizards. The United has not scored a goal since Bobby Convey scored in the 39th minute against the Columbus Crew on July 13th.

In the 88th minute, D.C. midfielder Ivan McKinley was taken down by Carey Talley in the box away from the ball, and Marco Etcheverry scored what appeared to be the game-winner in the 90th minute.

However, it was ruled by referee Noel Kenny that Convey was in the box early. Etcheverry was forced to retake the kick, and Meola made the save to become the first MLS player to stop two penalty kicks in a game.

D.C. (6-11-4) was awarded its first penalty kick when Jamie Moreno was taken down in the box by Mike Burns. Moreno’s shot was hit to Meola’s left, and he blocked it away for one of his seven saves. Kansas City (8-6-8) is unbeaten in three games.
