State park earns prize of $1,000

In early May, more than 10,000 children and adults participated in Kansas Wildscape’s OK Kids Day.

Events were conducted at 29 sites across the state, encompassing 120 outdoor activities, and more than 50 local sponsors.

El Dorado State Park won the $1,000 Top Site award from Capitol Federal Savings for providing activities such as a fishing clinic, nature hikes, archery, boat and buggy rides.

Honorable mention $250 awards were also given.

Meade State Park staff and volunteers were recognized for their scavenger hunt, bird walk, water safety training and tours of the fish hatchery. Kanopolis State Park was rewarded for unique events such as sand castle building, bug hunting, trap shooting and kite flying.

Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, Cheney State Park and Tuttle Creek State Park all received $100 Sponsor awards.

Kansas Wildscape, a non-profit foundation focused on providing outdoor recreational opportunities in Kansas, is based in Lawrence.
