Aaron and Maria Black, Mount Joy, Pa., announce the birth of twin sons, Jacob Benjamin and Justin Richard, born July 12, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa.

Jason and Nikki Schmitz, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Isaac Clayton Schmitz, born July 13, 2002, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam.

Paternal grandparents are Judy and James Schmitz Jr., Lawrence. Maternal grandparents are James Foster, Washington, and Cindy Foster, Tonganoxie.

Great-grandparents are Helen and Jerry Daniels, Hanford, Calif.; John and MaryAnn Bynum, Squaw Valley, Calif.; James Schmitz Sr., and Mary Frances Campbell, both of Lawrence.

Great-great-grandparent is Ruth Weikle, Hanford, Calif.

Daniel R. Zehr, son of Philip and Debra Zehr, Lawrence; Karl McDonald, son of Kent and Annette McDonald, Lawrence; and Alex Greer, son of John and Holly Greer, Lawrence; attended Level 2 of the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. The weeklong camp featured advanced simulator training.

Maura Carland, Lawrence, has been named to the 2001-2002 Dean’s List at Smith College, Northampton, Mass., by earning at least a 3.3 grade-point average. She is the daughter of John Carland, Lawrence, and is a 2000 Free State High School graduate.

Megan Brown, a Haskell Indian Nations University student, and Alisha Russell, a Baker University student, were among 70 students who participated in summer research programs at Kansas University. Brown’s research was in evolutionary biology and ecology while Russell’s was in pharmaceutical chemistry.

Sushila Shenoy, Lawrence, has been named to Dean’s List for the 2002 spring semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., by maintaining at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

Sarah Dinsdale, Lawrence, has received an instrumental music award for band and a collegiate scholarship at Sterling College. The music award was given based on musical ability, participation and recommendations. The scholarship was based on academic achievement. She is the daughter of Robert and Katherine Dinsdale, Lawrence.
