Kansas’ Morris second in decathlon

? Kansas University’s Andy Morris, competing in his first decathlon in nearly two years, finished second in the event at the Drake Relays on Thursday.

Morris, who led the decathlon after Wednesday’s competition, scored 6,051 points.

KU sophomore Paige Higgins won the 10,000-meter run in 35:27.52, and Kansas’ 4X1,600 relay team of Megan Manthe, Laura Lavoie, Courtney Deutsch and Katy Eisenmenger placed second in 19:37.36.

Other KU results: Pete Price, 13th in 3,000 steeplechase, 9:11.69; and Brent Behrens, 21st in 10,000, 32:12.35.

Also: Jennie Wonder qualified for the finals of the 400 hurdles with a prelim time of 1:00.07; Dorian Jordan clocked 54.45 in the men’s 400 hurdles prelim; and Jeremy Hull cleared 16-2 3/4 in the pole vault prelims.

The Drake Relays will continue today and conclude on Saturday.
