Musical treasure

To the editor:

My wife and I, relative newcomers to Lawrence, are discovering the treasures of this city. Sunday afternoon we were treated to a unique experience, the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra. The program featured an original composition by former KU student Todd Hershberger, a virtuoso oboe performance by KU professor Margaret Marco, a flawless piano concerto by Lawrence High School student Ying Niu, and Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” narrated by Jim Smith. Romanian guest conductor Florin Totan, making his first appearance in the United States, was wonderful, the music was superb.

The talented Lawrence musicians comprising the orchestra are true performers, and their music is a testimony of dedication and skill.
