MS Society requests help with annual walk

Agency: Multiple Sclerosis Walk

Contact: Sheri Daudet, (800) 745-7148, or Emily Zung, 832-1731

Each year, the area Multiple Sclerosis Society chapter sponsors a walk in Lawrence. And each year it looks to the community to help with the fund-raiser.

This time around, the agency needs about 20 volunteers to help with the walk on April 27, according to Sheri Daudet, branch manager of the Eastern Kansas Branch of the Mid America Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The check-in for the eight-mile walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Burcham Park. The walk starts at 9 a.m. and follows a course from the park through the Kansas University campus and then back to the park for lunch. The event is typically finished by 1 p.m.

A three-mile walk that is handicapped-accessible also will be available.

“Last year we had 150 participants,” Daudet said. “We raised $20,000.”

Volunteers can help at check-in tables or at intersections as crossing guards. They can put up and take down signs, help decorate, help with cleanup after the event or other tasks.

If volunteers are under 16, they must sign a waiver and be accompanied by an adult.

Those interested can call Emily Zung, 832-1731, chairwoman of the Lawrence walk, or Daudet, (800) 745-7148.
