Lawrence artist showing works in Wichita show

Lawrence artist Susan Jordan will have two paintings in the Pastel Nation exhibit through April 21 in Wichita.

Titles of the pastel landscapes are “Wakarusa Wetlands’ Sad Song,” above, and “One the Way to Coyote, N.M.” Juror for the show was Wolf Kahn, a renowned pastel artist who has landscape paintings in museums and galleries throughout the world.

Jordan will also have a pastel landscape, “Walking Rain Near Cabezon,” in the Heartlands Art Exhibit in March at the Merriam Community Center.

Until she retired last spring, Jordan was a gifted education consultant at Central Junior High School for 16 years. She has shown her artwork for 15 years and won several regional and national awards.

Photographs of Bosnia on display at coffeehouse

Lawrence photographer Monte Mace is showing his photographs of Medjugorje, Bosnia, at Aimee’s Coffee House, 1025-A Mass.

The photos were taken when Mace went with a Topeka group to the small village, where apparitions of the Virgin Mary have been reported.

Mace has worked as a photojournalist for newspapers and magazines and taught at Kansas University’s journalism school. He works for The Leaven, a weekly Catholic newspaper in Kansas City, Kan. The newspaper sent him to Medjugorje in November 2000.

Former KU football player creates winning poster

Former Kansas University football player Steve Harvey is the winner of the 2002 poster design competition for “Salute! A Festival of Wine and Food,” a benefit for Cottonwood Inc. His design, right, will be used on posters, invitations and other promotional items for the event.

Harvey, who grew up in Leavenworth, attended KU on a football scholarship from 1991 to 1994. He left KU to play professional football for a year and returned in 1998 to complete his degree in graphic design.

Harvey graduated in 1999 and works as a graphic designer for Gear for Sports in Lenexa.

“Salute! A Festival of Wine and Food” will be from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. July 13 at the Lawrence Holidome.

TV actor takes part in ‘Father of the Bride’

Overland Park  Pat Harrington, best known for playing the building superintendent in the television series “One Day at a Time,” will star in “Father of the Bride” at New Theatre Restaurant, 9229 Foster.

Lawrence actress Cheryl Weaver also is a cast member.

“Father of the Bride” is a comedy about all the fuss that goes into a wedding. Harrington plays the father.

The play will be performed Thursday-June 23. Show times are 6 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays and noon Wednesday and Sundays.

Admission is from $21.95 to $43.95, which includes the show and dinner. Tickets are available by calling (913) 649-SHOW.

‘Cabaret’ star helps raise money for theater

Kansas City, Mo. Â Entertainer Joel Grey will perform at a benefit for the Missouri Repertory Theatre at 7 p.m. April 21 at the theater, 4949 Cherry St.

Grey is best known for his Academy and Tony Award-winning performance as the emcee in the stage and film versions of “Cabaret.” His other films include “Fantasticks” and “Dance in the Dark” and his stage credits include “Chicago,” “George M” and “Goodtime Charley.”
