Benjamin Gleeson, 18, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest advancement award the Boys Scouts of America offers. A Court of Honor for him was April 7 at Plymouth Congregational Church.

Gleeson is a member of Boy Scout Troop 59, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church. He has earned 26 merit badges and served in several troop leadership positions, including senior patrol leader. He was inducted into the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 1999.

He has participated in high adventure trips to Sommers Canoe Base in Minnesota and two trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He attended summer camp at Camp Naish and H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Osceola, Mo.

For his Eagle service project, Gleeson designed and supervised the construction of a bench and a retaining wall for the playground at Broken Arrow School.

Gleeson is a senior at Lawrence High School and plans to attend Kansas University in the fall. His parents are Mark and Mary-Nell Gleeson.

Oliver Daniel Devlin, Lawrence, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Award. This award is to be presented at his Eagle Court of Honor at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Union Station Depot in Lawrence.

A member of Troop 55, Devlin is one of about 2 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and complete a community service project to earn his Eagle. Devlin designed and led the construction of a brick sidewalk leading to the flagpole at Sunset Hill School in Lawrence.

He has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, troop bugler, chaplain’s aide and troop guide. He has received the Arrow of Light, Order of the Arrow and Brave of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Devlin is a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and is active in soccer and tennis at Free State High School, where he is a sophomore. He is the son of Dan and Marcia Devlin, Lawrence.

Joshua Kamerick, 18, of Lawrence, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Award.

Kamerick was recognized in ceremonies April 12. Josh is a member of Troop 158, chartered to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is one of about 2 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagogue-related project. Kamerick chose to do a raised garden in front of the memorial arch at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Kamerick has served as vice president and received the On My Honor Award. Josh is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also is active in the Student Advisory Council at Free State High School, where he is a senior. He is the son of Christine Koehler, Lawrence.

Tiger Cubs from Cub Scout Pack 3055, chartered to the Westside Presbyterian Church, toured Glory Days Pizza on March 25. During the tour, the Scouts watched how pizza dough is made and shaped. The boys then assembled to bake their own pizza. Scouts who attended with their parents were Christopher Heller, Chase Taylor, Kjell Mullenix, Riley Buller, Matt Keary, Chase Langston and Addison McCauley.

Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to the Baldwin City Rotary Club, took a hiking and camping trip in March to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. The event was a training trip for scouts who will be participating in the troop’s High Adventure trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota this summer. On March 17, the troop visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial, where a reflective service was conducted by the Mark Shuck, troop chaplain. Scouts who attended were Kenton Shuck, Daren Gratts, Mark Westgate, Danny Beuthian, Kirsten Shuck. Adult leaders who attended were Martin Pressgrove, scoutmaster; Aaron Beuthian, assistant scoutmaster; and Mark Shuck, advancement chair. Michelle Pressgrove also participated in the three-day hike. The base camp support crew included Barbara Pressgrove, Virginia Wilson, Amelia Wilson, Evan Wilson and Tom Wilson.

Boy Scout Troop 59, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, began training for its 2002 High Adventure trek to the Flat-Top Mountains in Colorado. They went camping and backpacking March 14-16 at Indian Caves State Park in southeast Nebraska. Boys who attended the campout were Chris Berman, senior patrol leader; Nick Hilpman, senior patrol leader elect; Donnie Clancy, Doug Bricknell, Daniel Bergman, Colin Kappleman, Nathan Desetti, Dustin Brown, Kendall Scarffe, John Bergman, Gordon Fry, Steven Glasker, Ian McAfferty, David Stogsdill, Reid Crowe, James Garito, Phil Wrigley, Kevin Workman, Joe Stogsdill, Jace Thomas, Nolan Kappleman, Evan Hipman, Kelly Taylor, Phillip Anderson, Brian Workman, Sam Gleeson and Zachary King.

Adult leaders who attended were John Scarffe, Mark Gleeson, Mark Stogsdill, Don Crowe, Michael Glasker, Pat Donahue, Clay Kappleman and Dwight Hilpman.

Boy Scouts from Troop 53 camped out March 9-10. They practiced cold-weather camping skills, junior leader training, and the Troop’s Order of the Arrow tap-out. Scouts who attended were Chris Berger, Nick Chance, Nick Haehl, Michael Hurtig, Jimmy Kelley, Bob Larrabee, Julian Spangler, Alex Webster, Hamilton Lewis, Ray Segebrecht, Nathan Ideus, Mitchell Grant, Frankie Hurtig, Tim Malcolm, Philip Ozorkiewicz, Neil Ross, Brett Yulich, Devon Griffin, Zach Schmidt, Stephen May, Chance Steel, Chaz Steele and David Teefey. Adult leaders who attended were Larry Thornton, Craig Grant, Wayne Ideus, Steve Segebrecht, Ron Spangler and Mitch Yulich.

Troop 53 announces leadership changes that will be effective in April. Larry Thornton has completed five years as Scoutmaster and will return to the role of Assistant Scoutmaster. Ron Spangler, long-term camping chair, will become Scoutmaster. Ken Baldwin has completed nine years of service as troop committee chairman. He has volunteered to be the Pelathe District Commissioner. Steve Segebrecht, Assistant Scoutmaster for six years, has agreed to serve as troop committee chair.

A celebration honoring Thornton and Baldwin for their years of service is being planned.
