Speaker to address church developments

Robert Meneilly, founding pastor of Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, will join First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, during the school hour from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.

Meneilly will discuss developments within the Presbyterian Church that are emerging as a long-term and determined movement to change the course of mainstream churches. Child care and children’s Sunday church school are available.

First Presbyterian will offer classes for those interested in learning more about the church at 9:30 a.m. April 21 and 28.

Central Methodist adds contemporary service

Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass., will offer its initial contemporary service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The service, designed for young adults and students, will include lively music and messages relevant to everyday situations.

The traditional service will follow at 10:45 a.m. each week.

Workshop focuses on relationships

A Catholic Community Services workshop, “Loving Presence and Centering Prayer,” will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, April 20 and 27, and May 4 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center, 1631 Crescent Road.

Mission study offered in Baldwin

Baldwin  The 2002 mission study for Trailside Parish and area churches will be presented from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ives Chapel, 1008 Miami. Hosts for the event are the Ives Chapel United Methodist Women.

The study topic is “Abundant Life  Global Health and Christian Response-Ability.”

A continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. Drinks will be furnished. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch or be prepared to place a sandwich order with the registrar when they arrive.

Event designed for businesswomen

Martha’s Market Day, sponsored by Martha and Mary’s Way, will provide an opportunity for women who are business owners to meet other women.

This event will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky. The event will include displays, demonstrations, samples, business cards and light refreshments.

Mustard Seed sets ministry meeting

The Prophetic Ministry meeting will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive.

St. John’s offers inquiry sessions

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky., has canceled today’s 5:30 p.m. anticipated Sunday liturgy. Sunday liturgies are at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Sunday’s adult education class is sponsored by the Always Our Children support group. Members of the support group will present information and lead a discussion of the place of gays and lesbians in the Catholic Church.

Children’s journey focuses on pentecost

“Pentecost” is the next Touchstone Journey in the children’s Sunday school rotation at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The weekly journey begins Sunday and runs through May 19. The scripture instruction will incorporate art, cooking, computers, drama, Bible knowledge and videos.

Unitarian committee looks to future

The long-range planning committee at Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will present a progress report and a look ahead during the program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Trinity Lutheran in life program

Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H., is participating in an Evangelical Lutheran Churches in America program, “CenteredLife-CenteredWork.”

The program will ask Trinity members how the church helps their everyday lives. Results will be used to help the church plan resources and programs.

Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America at Trinity will again sell varieties of coffee from farmers who cooperate through fair trade and local cooperatives. Coffee will be sold Sunday between services and throughout the month in the church office.

Trinity Episcopal discusses columbarium

The adult forum at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the nave at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will focus on establishment of a columbarium at the church.

The new family service planned by Trinity youth will be at 5 p.m. Sunday. Chorister and Canterbury choirs will sing, accompanied by the Handbell Choir. The Rev. Grant Clowers will celebrate holy Eucharist.

St. Margaret’s sets confirmation retreat

St. Margaret’s Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will offer a confirmation retreat from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today at the church.

The children will release butterflies at the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services. The youth group will meet after the 5:30 p.m. service to plan the graduation celebration.

Quartet to perform at West Side church

The Joyful Noise Gospel Quartet of Leavenworth will provide music after a 6 p.m. Wednesday potluck supper at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

Quartet members are Harold Clark, lead; Tom Sack, tenor; Richard Sack, baritone; and Bill Bay, bass. A mandolin and guitar provide accompaniment.

Plymouth plans special music Sunday

The Plymouth Church Chancel Choir will present Mozart’s “Credo and Agnus Dei” during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at the church, 925 Vt. The Plymouth and Mayflower Ringers will play a piece by Mozart for the prelude. The Plymouth Ringers also will offer a bake sale during coffee hour.

This year’s theologian in residence, Jonathan Z. Smith, will speak about ancient religion at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the church. He also will offer a continuing education workshop from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and a question-and-answer session from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Good Shepherd sets Holocaust remembrance

The senior high youth group at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will present a Holocaust remembrance service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 2211 Inverness Drive.

The service will feature Louis Frydman, a concentration camp survivor and Kansas University professor emeritus. Music will be provided by Shirayj Shabbat and the Good Shepherd Gather Band.

A reception will follow the service.
