Cry another day

London Halle Berry suffered an inflamed eye in an accident on the set of the latest James Bond film, the producers said Wednesday.

The wind blew dust into Berry’s eye while she was filming an action sequence in Spain on Saturday, producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in London. She was treated and returned to work immediately.

Berry, who won a best-actress Oscar last month for her role in “Monster’s Ball,” plays a sultry Bond girl opposite Pierce Brosnan’s Agent 007 in the 20th Bond film, “Die Another Day,” which is scheduled for a Nov. 22 release in Britain and the United States.

Heeeere’s a lawsuit

Los Angeles Ed McMahon has filed a $20 million lawsuit against his insurance company, claiming he was sickened by toxic mold that spread through his Beverly Hills home.

McMahon and his wife, Pamela, said a plumbing pipe burst in July, flooding their den with water. Mold was found in the den a month later, the lawsuit says.

The couple alleges the mold spread to other parts of the house, including the air conditioning ducts.

They claim they became seriously ill and their dog died from mold-related illness. The 79-year-old McMahon, best known as the sidekick to former “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson, said he was coughing and congested for months, forcing him to cancel several speaking engagements and take antibiotics.

Extraordinary vision

Muncie, Ind. Deaf actress Marlee Matlin said having the courage to dream helped her overcome her disability.

Matlin told Ball State University students and others Tuesday that being deaf gave her the courage to take up acting because she realized that barriers can be broken.

“I am living testimony to that,” said the 36-year-old actress, who has been deaf since she was 18 months old.

Matlin, who plays Joey Lucas on NBC’s “The West Wing,” won a best-actress Oscar for the 1986 film “Children of a Lesser God.”

Oprah skips own party

Johannesburg, South Africa Oprah Winfrey missed the South African launch of O, The Oprah Magazine, reportedly because she was concerned about traveling.

In a videotaped message shown Tuesday night at a luxury Johannesburg hotel, Winfrey said she had picked out the dress she planned to wear and regretted being unable to attend.

In an interview in the Sunday Times she said, “I started feeling uncomfortable about traveling. My instinct says things aren’t right in parts of the world.”

South Africa is the first country outside the United States to have its own edition of Winfrey’s magazine.
