Magic coach hints at Ewing’s retirement

Orlando, Fla. Â On the eve of what might be Patrick Ewing’s last game at Madison Square Garden, his coach said he believes the 17-year veteran will retire after the season.

“I think (Tuesday) will be his last game in New York, and I hope they send him out the right way,” Orlando coach Doc Rivers said Monday, before the Magic beat Houston 83-74.

Orlando plays in New York tonight. Ewing played 15 years for the Knicks before leaving as a free agent after the 1999-2000 season.

Carter’s recovery slower than expected

Toronto  Vince Carter’s recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery has been slower than expected.

Carter, who had surgery two weeks ago, might not be available for a first-round playoff series, should the Toronto Raptors reach the postseason, the Toronto Sun reported Monday

“He’s had some additional swelling,” Toronto general manager Glen Grunwald said.

Odom to have surgery
