Marie Gilliland

Worden Services for Marie Gilliland, 75, Worden, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Worden United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Worden Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilliland died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 11, 1926, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of Conrad and Marie (Breymeyer) Gastrock. Her aunt and uncle, Minnie and Herman Breymeyer, raised her in Wamego after her mother died when she was 5 days old. She graduated from Wamego High School in 1944.

She then spent five years in Topeka, where she attended Clarks Secretarial School and worked for the Veterans Employment Service.

She taught piano lessons for most of her married life. She was a member of Worden United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She also conducted junior choir, served as organist and was a member of Worden United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Central Extension Homemakers Unit for many years. She led a Bible class in her community for 12 years and attended a Precept Ministries Bible study for many years.

She married Charles Dudley Gilliland on April 24, 1949, at Wells Creek Evangelical Reformed Church, Bellevue. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Jan Gilliland, Phoenix, David Gilliland, Baldwin, and Jeff Gilliland, Carol Stream, Ill.; two sisters, Naomi Gastrock and Vera Dahlman; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Baldwin, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
