Voters can select best NY film

? If you had to pick one movie that best captured the spirit of New York City, what would it be  “Manhattan”? “Do the Right Thing”? “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”?

Those are among 250 movies in The Best of New York online competition, part of the inaugural Tribeca Film Festival. Movie lovers can log onto the festival’s Web site and cast votes. The winning film will be screened May 9, during the festival.

Also on the list are movies starring the festival’s co-founder, Robert De Niro, including “Mean Streets” and “Taxi Driver.”

The lineup for the Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from May 8-12, includes 62 features, documentaries and shorts in competition, chosen from more than 1,300 films from around the world.

Among them include works like “Rodger Dodger,” starring Campbell Scott, Elizabeth Berkley, Jennifer Beals and Isabella Rosellini; “Emmett’s Mark,” starring Gabriel Byrne and Scott Wolf; and “Three Days of Rain,” starring Peter Falk and Blythe Danner.

The festival aims to encourage the work of first-time filmmakers and to help reinvigorate Tribeca, one of the hardest-hit parts of lower Manhattan after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Movies will screen at venues throughout the neighborhood. Tickets go on sale in mid-April.
