Holliman's hit in 11th lifts UT in Game Two

? Michael Holliman hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday night to give Texas a 5-4 victory over Kansas and a doubleheader sweep.

The Longhorns (28-9, 7-5 Big 12) won the first game 8-3.

Kansas (13-15, 2-10) took a 4-0 lead in the second game with an RBI single by Ryan Klocksien in the first and a bases-loaded double by Kevin Wheeler in the third.

Texas scored on a double by Omar Quintanilla in the fourth and cut the lead to 4-2 in the seventh.

The Longhorns tied the score in the eighth on a two-run double from Jeff Ontiveros.

Huston Street (2-1) recorded the win. Kansas reliever Tom Gorzelanny (0-5) took the loss.

Quintanilla extended his hitting streak to 15 games, going 5-for-9 in the doubleheader. He scored three runs and had an RBI.

Matt Tribble went 3-for-5 for Kansas in the nightcap.

In the first game, Texas jumped to a 6-0 lead with four straight singles and a two-RBI triple from Eric Sultemeier. The Longhorns extended the lead to 8-0 in the fourth as Brandon Fahey had an RBI single and Quintanilla got an RBI double to left.

Kansas’ Casey Spanish homered in the sixth to end Justin Simmons’ consecutive scoreless innings streak at 23.2 innings.

The Jayhawks added two runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Ryan Baty.

Simmons (9-0) earned the victory. Dan Olson (3-3) took the loss.

Kevin Wheeler had KU’s only extra-base hit in the second game, a double.

Travis Metcalf and Brandon Shepard had two hits in the opener. Baty had a double for the Jayhawks.
