The Kansas University Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lied Center. Guest artists are the Kansas Brass Quintet and the 312th Army Brass Band.

Under the direction of KU music professor Robert Foster, the KU Symphonic Band will play "Decades," a song written by Foster's son, Robert Foster Jr., to celebrate the last three decades of performances by the KU bands. The song features the KU Brass Quintet and the Army Brass Band. The younger Foster is band director for Eudora High School and Haskell Indian Nations University.

Other program highlights are "The Flight of the Bumble Bee" by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, with a tuba solo by student Chris Lair; "The Armies of the Omnipresent Otserf" by KU graduate David Holsinger; and "Symphonic Overture" by James Barnes, a composer and KU music professor.

Tom Stidham, KU associate director of bands, and Barnes assist with conducting.

Admission is $7 for the general public and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Lied Center Box Office, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall Box Office, 864-3982; and Student Union Activities Box Office, 864-3982.
