Lions upended in baseball, 5-4, 15-5

? Shawnee Heights struck early and often in a sweep of a high school baseball doubleheader with Lawrence High on Saturday afternoon at Heights’ field.

Shawnee Heights scored three runs in the first inning en route to a 5-4 victory in the opener.

The Thunderbirds then scored five times in the first inning of a 15-5 win in the nightcap.

Offensive highlights for the Lions were a two-run home run by Taylor Martin and doubles by Troy Wingert, Tommy Mangino and Kyle McManness in the opener. Martin added a triple in the second game, and Wingert and Derek Bailey had doubles.

Lawrence High fell to 4-3, and Shawnee Heights improved to 8-0. The Lions will entertain Shawnee Mission South at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ice Field.
