William J. McCormick

Mass of Christian Burial for William J. McCormick, 76, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

Mr. McCormick died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Cicero, Ill., the son of William Joseph Sr. and Jennie (Bartosek) McCormick.

Mr. McCormick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific.

He was a mechanical engineer at Western Electric, Omaha, Neb., for many years and retired in the late 1980s.

Mr. McCormick was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Centennial Lodge No. 326 A.F. & A.M., Omaha, Neb., and Tanjier Shrine Temple, Omaha, Neb., where he was the bagpipe major for the Shriner Band.

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa McCormick-Noonen, Lawrence; a son, Jay, Louisville, Ky.; and a sister, Joan McCormick, Brookfield, Ill.

A parish rosary service will be at 7 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assn. or the American Lung Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.
